FREIRE SHIPYARD singns a contract with the swedish defence materiel administration to build four naval support ships

Spanish shipyard C.N.P. FREIRE, S.A. (FREIRE SHIPYARD) has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to construct four new vessels for naval support missions. The ships will be 47 metres length, capable of reaching speeds of up to 12 knots and offering an endurance of up to 10 days, with accommodation for 16 crew members.

Freire Shipyard celebrates the keel-laying of the Dana V research vessel for DTU

Freire Shipyard has celebrated the keel laying of the new flagship research vessel for the Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU -Technical University of Denmark). Measuring 70 meters length and 16 meters beam, with accommodation for 38 people, the Dana V is set to become a world-class platform for research and education.

Keel-laying ceremony of the Spanish Navy’s new diving support vessel

7 of November Freire Shipyard celebrated the keel-laying of the new diving support vessel (NB 739) for the Spanish Navy’ in Vigo. The vessel, measuring 32.90 metres length and 9 metres beam, with a range of 500 nautical miles and accommodation for 15 crew members, will incorporate eco-friendly technologies aimed at optimising fuel consumption and reducing emissions.

Freire Shipyard launches the Saputi II fishing vessel for Qikiqtaaluk Fisheries Corporation in Vigo

On 9 September, Freire Shipyard launched the new Arctic freezer trawler, built for Canadian fishing company Qikiqtaaluk Fisheries Corporation. The Saputi II, with a length of 79 metres, a beam of 17 metres and capacity for 34 crew members, will be equipped with state-of-the-art automated systems to carry out catching, sorting and cooking, freezing and robotic palletizing processes. The vessel will play a key role in the sustainable harvesting of shrimp and Greenland halibut in waters between Greenland and Canada.

On 9 July, Freire Shipyard celebrated the launching of the new vessel for IFREMER. The French-flagged oceanographic vessel, which will have an overall length of 45.00 metres and a beam of 11.50 metres, stands out for the wide range of energy-saving technologies and low-consumption solutions applied.

Keel laying of new vessel for Greenpeace International at Freire Shipyard

On 3 July 2025, Freire Shipyard laid the keel for Greenpeace International's new flagship. The 75-metre sailing vessel, with a sail area of almost 2,000 square metres, will be equipped with a hybrid propulsion system that will include hydrogen fuel cells and engines capable of using methanol as fuel, thus minimising its carbon footprint.

Keel laying of Thuwal II for King Abdullah University of Science and Technology at Freire Shipyard

On 23 April, Freire Shipyard laid the keel of the research vessel Thuwal II for the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). With a length of 50 metres, this vessel will be the flagship of the Saudi research fleet and will serve all national marine research interests.
