Throughout 2023, Freire Shipyard has stood out in various shipbuilding projects, reaching milestones and consolidating new contracts. Our participation has demonstrated leadership not only in technological innovation but also in a firm commitment to environmental sustainability.
The year began with the delivery of the Oceanographic Research Vessel “Jaywun” for the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates. This innovative vessel, inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with a length of 47.10 meters, stands as the most advanced in the Middle East region. Also during this period, we celebrated the departure from Vigo of the oceanographic “Falkor (too)”, initially built as Offshore and transformed by Freire Shipyard for the Schmidt Ocean Institute, with a length of 110.60 meters and capacity for 99 crew members, of which 61 are scientists.
In the summer, we were proud to deliver the largest superyacht built in Spain, the “Renaissance”. With 112 meters in length and an exquisite design by Bannenberg & Rowell, this achievement marks a milestone in Spanish shipbuilding.
Repairs and Maintenance
During this year Freire Shipyard took care of the maintenance and updating of the Spanish vessel “Sarmiento de Gamboa” and the historic sailboat “Xarifa”, whose works will extend until the beginning of 2024.
New Projects for the Future
The year 2023 also saw the signing of contracts for the construction of various types of vessels. In the first quarter, we formalized an agreement with Briggs Marine to design and build an efficient maintenance vessel, whose keel laying took place in September and its delivery is expected in 2024. This vessel will support marine projects, including the maintenance of navigation marks and coastal moorings.
In addition, we finalized a contract with IFREMER for the construction of an oceanographic research vessel for the French Oceanographic Fleet, standing out for its energy efficiency and versatility in various oceanographic disciplines. Closing the year, we confirmed the construction of a fishing vessel for the Canadian company Qikiqtaaluk Corporation.
Finally, we continue to advance with the “Incógnita” project and we are preparing for the imminent delivery of the oceanographic “David Packard”.
In 2024 we will continue working so that each project reflects our commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability.
