Description

The conversion of the Falkor Too from an offshore vessel to an oceanographic research vessel involved extensive engineering and production work. On the main deck, the cabins were replaced with laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art instruments. A completely new LAN network for scientists was also installed, along with an expansion of the air conditioning capacity required by the various laboratories and control rooms. A stern gantry and a davit for a tender were added to the working deck, and an L-shaped gantry for CTD service was added to the hangar. The accommodation area was adapted to the owner’s specifications, including a VIP cabin area for owner visits and an outdoor lounge for hosting events on board.

For bottom-diving equipment, sounders were installed in a 20-meter-long gondola, one of the largest gondolas ever installed on an oceanographic vessel. New communications equipment was also installed, enabling the ship to transmit satellite communications and live stream content on social media, showcasing the vessel’s capabilities and missions.

All of this was done while maintaining thorough maintenance of the main equipment, including propulsion systems, generators, electrical panels, and so on.
